The modem sees the SIM but the data link between SIM and modem is unreliable: intermittent contact or a partly damaged cartridge. GSM tracking drops in and out. Riding and Bluetooth are unaffected.
Likely causes
- Intermittent SIM contact from vibration or a knock to the top tube
- Corrosion on the SIM contacts
- Cracked solder joint on the modem board
- Water inside the cartridge
- Modem firmware fault
How to fix VanMoof error 57
- Hard reset and check whether the code returns over the next few rides
- Install any pending firmware update
- Keep the bike dry; moisture in the top tube makes intermittent contacts worse
- Note whether the code appears mainly after rough roads, which points at a mechanical contact issue
- If it persists and tracking matters, an independent VanMoof-capable shop can open the cartridge, clean the contacts or replace the unit
